6/10/2023 0 Comments Strangeland podcast![]() I’ve seen a few reviews stating that the reporting is biased and needs to be more objective, but I don’t agree. It’s obvious that they actually care about the stories they’re reporting on, and it’s conveyed in the way that they tell the story. Both seasons of Strangeland were addicting. ![]() I’m such an audiochuck snob that if I even try to listen to other podcasts, I end up annoyed and/or bored in the first 5 minutes for one reason or another. I’ve watched thousands of hours of true crime shows and listened to hundreds of hours of podcasts (I’ve only listened to podcasts for about a year), and this podcast DOES NOT DISAPPOINT. I’ve been fascinated with true crime for a very long time and had seen at least one documentary on most of the notorious serial killers by the time I was 12/13. Half the time, when others within the culture you are learning about see that you are trying to meet them halfway, they tend to be more willing to open up to you. It is ok to make mistakes as you are introduced to another culture, as long as you respond respectfully and use your mistakes as a learning experience. The best way to get the firsthand view of another culture is to make a friend with someone in that culture. It also must be understood that the people the hosts try to interview have been impacted by the tragic crime, and thus they should proceed with the upmost kindness and sensitivity. It is ok to be frustrated that people refuse to talk to you about a case you’re investigating, but it must be understood that it may be culturally related as well. I feel like this aspect is overlooked, particularly when it comes to traditional gender roles in countries such as India, Pakistan, Iran, etc. I have personally worked with refugees from other countries, which required me to learn about their cultures and observe how they strive to preserve their beloved culture in the US. In season 2 for instance, there is an obvious cultural divide that, in my opinion, is not fully taken into consideration. But, one thing I would like to mention is how the hosts communicate with individuals impacted by the crime they are investigating. This particular podcast has been quite interesting thus far.
